Traveling by airplane in this day and age can pose certain challenges. Follows are 10 tips to make dealing with airport security less taxing on the nerves.

Know what you need to pack and where. Currently the airlines are only permitting passengers to carry on three ounces at most of any liquid or gel-like material. Additionally, the substance needs to be inside a clear container packed inside a transparent baggie. If you wish to bring along anything more, you must check it in. Alternatively you can simply buy it when you get where you're going.

Weigh ahead of time. In order to ensure that your check-on luggage isn't over the weight allowed, no more than fifty pounds, weigh your luggage before getting into the baggage claims line. Remember that carry-on is still your best bet

It's a good idea to show up early. Check out the airport website, if they have one, for notice of delays. The rule of thumb is show up two hours early for the average flight.

Be certain to have the proper ID. Depending on where you are traveling, specific identification may be necessary. Check the national security rules beforehand and leave time to update your identification, if necessary.

Slip-ons Only. It is often a necessity to remove your shoes at security checkpoints. A pair that can be easily slipped on and off is your best bet when flying.

Bottoms up. Security refuses passengers from bringing drinks onto the plane. Even drinks purchased in the safe area beyond the checkpoints aren't safe enough. Be prepared to consume or dispose of your drink before boarding.

Plan entertaining activities for children traveling with you. Long wait times aren't fun for anyone, even more so for young children. Since restrictions on beverage exist, it is best to bring along fun and distracting activities to keep little ones occupied.

Follow instructions given by airport personnel. The workers at the airport are only doing their job to the best of their ability in order to provide you with a safe flight. Avoid power struggles and just go along with what they tell you.

People who travel by flying are permitted to carry-on certain filled prescriptions as well as baby formula and food as long as it is accompanied by an authentically signed document from a doctor.

Maintain a positive attitude. Things may seem bad right now with the constant threat of terrorism seemingly on the horizon. Resist the tendency to let this bring you down. Life is a great gift and should be live to the fullest.
