Have you been amazed, perplexed and befuddled with all the choices available to you today in porch and patio furniture? Well, I'd like to help you - simplify the whole process a bit - by introducing you to my 3-step approach that will have you finalizing your choice in no time. Think not? Then let's take this journey together.

Step 1? Choose your location. THINK before you buy. Where will your patio furniture be used? Exclusively outside? Inside? Or perhaps a little of both? Also, think about it's location in terms of decorating: if you have to move the furniture, will you be able to move your patio furniture yourself? How far will it have to be carried or moved? If you are living in a warmer climate especially, do you have plans to leave your furniture outside year-round?

Believe it or not, the answers to all of these questions will help you to determine the size and type of patio furniture that you will need. For example, if your storage shed is a long way away from your patio area, you should not select really heavy outdoor furniture - as you will have to lift and carry it that whole distance. Also, if you will be leaving your patio furniture outside all year, then you must make sure that it is made of materials that are durable and easy to clean.

But that's not all: Consider your location from another perspective - really now, just how much room do you have there? Don't go overboard on your purchases - don't try to crowd too much furniture into an area that is simply to small to hold it all. Your guests will be bumping into each other just moving around - and how much do you suppose that they will like that? In a nutshell: buy the patio furniture that you need, but not more than you need.

Step 2: Choose Your Furniture pieces. All choices in basic outdoor furniture come down to one of these three types: tables, seating and recliners. As well, you can also choose from many types of accessories: everything from pillows and cushions, to swings, hammocks, grills, and even outdoor light fixtures.

The basic rule of thumb: buy quality patio furniture, not cheap junk. Buy less, not more. Make sure that everything matches. Make sure that your furniture is the proper size and weight.

Step 3: Choose Your Materials. What do I mean by materials? This refers to the materials used in construction of your patio furniture. Natural products like wood and wicker are beautiful, but require regular care and maintenance to keep them looking their best. Some natural products should not be left out in the rain, or left to stand in wet areas (natural wicker or rattan). Other natural products like Teak take the weather much better, but are more expensive to purchase. Synthetics are more durable, and less expensive, but the quality can vary a great deal. Even metal has its limitations: rust and corrosion can plague you if you buy a metal set.

So There you have it: choose your location, choose the pieces you will need, and choose your materials. Do all of this properly and you will undoubtedly find just the perfect patio furniture for your needs!
