A nanny is someone who is employed by a family either on a live-in or live-out basis, who is essentially responsible for taking care of the children and their needs. It is generally observed that women excel in the role of a nanny as they are very patient, kind and have an eye for detail.

A nanny is expected to do everything that is connected with children, which includes not only childcare but also household chores related to the children. Women find this a lucrative profession and often go in for formal training to execute these tasks efficiently. In the fast-paced life where both parents have to work, the demand for nannies, child care professionals and housekeepers is increasing by the day.

Is She A Good Nanny?

A good nanny knows that she has to invest a great deal of time to her job. She has to be committed to her work because she plays an important role in the psychological development of the child she is taking care of. A good nanny plays a significant role in the all-round development of the children and helps them grow into well-rounded individuals with a sense of well-being, security and family bonding.

Here are a few characteristics of a good nanny:

1. A good nanny does not take her job as a burdensome chore, but gets fully involved in it. She enjoys interacting with the kids with genuine warmth, care and patience. An experienced nanny knows that children respond to love and affection rather than reprimand and punishment. So, she loves them like a mother.

2. Stays connected: Take an effort to inform and educate the parents about the development in their child. You could prepare notes or daily reports on the activities of the child. Parents are understandably delighted to know about the progress in their kids.

3. Needless to say, be very particular about cleanliness. Make sure that the home, especially the kid’s rooms are always neat and tidy. A clean house will not only keep the disease away but will help children to inculcate habits of keeping their environment clean and tidy.

4. While you are with the kids be there totally. I mean you should not only be physically there but your mind should be focused on your job as well. This way you can pre-empt, organize and plan activities better. Of course, you can avoid accidents also, if you pay attention to detail.

What the Job Entails

Good nannies are hard to find and has become extremely beneficial monetarily. In recent times, nannies charge about $12-$15 per hour. Some households find it easier to pay nannies on a monthly basis rather than hourly rates.

Typically, all households bear the expenses of travel, short vacations and major holidays. Nannies are also eligible for a raise as time passes by and based on how well she fits into the family needs and the children’s needs.

Women make excellent nannies as they have the inherent maternal instinct in them. They are naturally good with children and enjoy the company of kids. Hence, adopting a career of being a nanny is not only highly remunerative, but also enjoyable. Being a nanny in a household brings you closer to a warm and loving family and provides you the satisfaction of contributing in a small way to the good health and well being of the family.
