Have you ever wondered what it is about these Hollywood stars that give them the demi-god status in your lives? You admire & hero-worship them. Love them and even envy their glory. More than your own life you are interested by what is happening in their lives.

Anyone questioning whether or not America is obsessed with Hollywood needs only turn on the television to see how movie stars and celebrities dominate our news and just about everything we see. Even the fashion magazines have movie stars on the cover; the super models have been banished to the back pages. Movie stars and celebrities are everywhere but what makes these people so special?

Much of the Hollywood exposure has more to do with looks and skilled public relations personnel. Hollywood actors and actresses are prepped and polished long before the public ever sets eyes upon them. The stars look flawless - everything is perfect, from their hair styles and makeup, to their perfect clothes in designer size 0. It's an interesting dichotomy, what fascinates us (the hair, makeup, clothes, jewels) also make people feel inferior and in awe of the rich and famous. They seem to have all things most of us imagine only in our wildest dreams.

Some people often get the mistaken impression that just because they see their favorite Hollywood stars in films and on television that they know what a person is like. They even begin to feel that they have some kind of camaraderie to certain actors. However, in reality Hollywood stars have private lives that they fiercely protect. We really can't begin to know them on a personal level, despite the number of interviews we've seen.

To become a famous movie star it has a lot to do with luck. You're either in the right place at the right time or you are related to or know someone famous. Very few celebrities are hired based on pure talent these days and if you don't know someone who can give you an 'in', or you are simply stunning, you don't have much chance of hitting the big time.

This also extends to musicians. Just take a look at all of multi-millionaire pop singers and ask yourself how many of them can actually sing? Considering all the recent accusations of lip-synching, the answer is not many. It's sad that looks have become more important to so many people than talent.

Many Hollywood stars crave the attention they get from their fans and the paparazzi. There is a downside to too much publicity. It's becoming more and more common to hear reports of deranged individuals stalking the stars. Some people with mental disabilities fixate on Hollywood stars and mistakenly belief that they are part of the stars lives, even that they know the star personally.

Hollywood influence varies somewhat depending on the topic. Some stars rallied in the last US election to encourage people to vote for John Kerry. George Bush won the election, so it may be that Hollywood stars don't have as much influence as previously thought.

Hollywood stars and starlets make millions of dollars, much of it based only on their fan support. People love to see to see these Hollywood stars any chance they get. Tabloid papers regularly create lies and rumors about the rich and famous, but it doesn't keep Americans from buying these rags. America's infatuation with Hollywood shows no sign of slowing down.
