Beach Cruisers are Back

At first look, you weren't sure if it was really a motor bike, not a beach cruiser, since it has a big tank on the back. It’s a retro beach cruiser being elaborately painted and decorated to creat the proper sunshine daydream flashback. The bike was a Dynocruiser, a make not often seen, but brought back to life with careful restoration. David had been away many Saturdays and Sundays, working on this bike and another green beach cruiser, till his wife became suspicious. Luckily, they worked out a compromise; he, his wife and their two kids. All of them together spent Sunday afternoon getting their exercise on their beach cruiser and their requisite amount of fresh air and “lifestyle”.

However, somehow, the same bikes have also become very popular with the college kids. And the great colors available from hundreds of manufactures are also pretty amazing, from mint green to chrome to yellow beach cruisers. It's not enough to have one paint job; many of these beach cruisers have intricate designs and a ten coat job. Now the college kids have a lot of fun fixing up their bike and giving it ten paint jobs. Some even have a tank on the back, which is decorated with dragons and elves.

Past the family fun, a couple of college kids ride by on beach cruisers too. The young guy is riding on an all-black version with 26-inch wheels, while the young lady is riding a light purple model with slightly smaller wheels, adorned with paintings on Hawaiian flowers. She also had a white wicker basket, ideal for carrying school books or a light picnic lunch.

With a few hotdogs on board, a place to grill them, buns, blankets, radio, and snacks, they’re all set. Having left a cheap grill behind some trees on the beach, it’s time to chow down. This is what is called partaking in the lifestyle. This mainly consists in listening to popular tunes, be they hip hop, R & B, or, horrors, rap. Maybe this accounts for some of the exotic designs seen on many of the bicycles whether they be beach cruisers, low riders or anything else. A little bit of dancing, a touch of random karaoke singing adds to the scene. Warm weather and vigorous exercises is a good excuse to take off excess clothing and show off well muscled body parts. Wide handle bars are definitely designed to show off some big biceps in some cases. Or in the case of our baby boomer and tweener friends, it is a good excuse to add some exercise and avoid getting too flabby. And all the different companies offering retro fun beach cruiser is encouraging, including Firmstrong and Schwinn but hundreds of others. And another overlooked source of fun is that you could order bikes at a discount price on the Internet, and then get the family together to assemble these bikes. It really isn't that bad; many people report that if they can remember how to use pliers and a screw driver, it is OK. What family fun. And it usually isn’t that complicated.
