The country of Chile is filled with adventure and amazing attractions that will leave you breathless. This country, found on the west coast of South America, is wild and rugged and yet at the same time has a soft elegance that makes it a target for tourists everywhere.

Chile has on hand the best wonders of nature to offer to its visitors. Craggy mountains, deserted beaches, overgrown forests, and spouting geysers will fascinate you, especially if you love the wild and the woods. Nature is undisturbed at many parts of Chile, which will give a soothing feeling, far removed from the hustle and bustle of city life. The city of Santiago with five million people represents the urban side of Chile, which too is an interesting place to have fun if you are interested in the rustic urban landscapes.

Many consider Chile as one of the less popular countries in South America. On the contrary, Chile has a very robust European background, because of which it has become a very important tourist destination for westerners. Some areas of Santiago have a Parisian touch, especially in art, architecture and music.

Arts and literature are strong and growing in Chile. The Nobel Prize for literature has twice been brought home to the country of Chile, first by poet Gabriela Mistral, and second by another poet, Pablo Neruda. Music is no forgotten art in Chile, and folk music has long been the release in which the people of Chile have been able to express their feelings after being oppressed by the military coup that occurred in 1973.

When you are visiting Chile you won't want to limit your visit to Santiago. There are other cities that are just as beautiful and thriving, as well as nearby islands that demand your attention. The island of Chiloe, which is only thirty-one miles wide and 112 miles long, is a beacon of stunning beauty. You can arrive at Chiloe by a ferry from the mainland. The island is home to several small villages and towns that contain homes that have been built on stilts due to the rain that falls in this area. You'll want to take a multitude of pictures of the volcanoes that can be seen on the mainland of Chile from this island paradise.

Torres del Paine National Park is another place which should be included in your must visit list. This park allows you enjoy nature in its pure form. Known as a biosphere park, this offers you the experience of waterfalls and glaciers. You can also have fun wandering though the strange and thick forests.

Sightseeing and adventure are not the options to explore in Chile. The native cuisine includes a huge selection of seafood, beef, fruits, and vegetables. Several snack items are very popular in Chile, "empanadas" and "humitas". Empanadas, which can be purchased from street corner vendors in Santiago, are turnovers filled with a variety of fillings. Humitas are known to westerners as corn tamales.

The Chileans love to eat breads so you'll find a varied selection wherever you go. One of the favorite types of breads is potato bread. One of most popular meals eaten by Chileans and tourists is "lomo a lo pobre". Lomo a lo pobre is made of two fried eggs on top of a large piece of beef and served with chips.

Chile is a land filled with fun and excitement. It's an amazing part of the world to visit and sightsee.
