Sure, there are millions of websites out there, but that doesn't mean it's impossible to get your website top rankings in Google, Yahoo, and other search engines. Only a few of those sites are after the same keywords you want to rank for, and even those sites that have "your" keywords on them may not be competition for you. For instance, if your website is about target shooting, you'll easily rank ahead of someone who mentions that target shooting is one of his or her hobbies. In fact, even webmasters who would like high rankings for "your" keywords won't be much of a threat, because they don't have the knowledge they need. Or, if they do, they fail to understand that website promotion must be an ongoing process. Are you willing to keep working on your site's search engine rankings? If so, you can keep moving up the search engine ladder. And, probably faster than you think. Just do these five thing. 1. Make sure you have proper, well-conceived meta tags. If not, replace them; many websites offer tips on writing meta tags and even help you create them, but here is a good summary. Your title tag should include your best keyword or phrase, and it should come first, if possible. Also, your title should make the nature of your website clear...don't make potential visitors guess what it's about. The keyword tag should list your top keywords or phrases in order of importance. Your description meta tag may be displayed in some search engines and directories, so write one or two sentences designed to interest anyone who reads it. 2. Sign up for a few of the many good website promotion email newsletters. You can learn all kinds of techniques and tips from folks who spend all day promoting websites. I especially recommend Search Engine Watch http://searchenginewatch.com/ and LED Digest http://www.led-digest.com/content/view/52/77/. If you have time, read the archives as well as the new issues. 3. Add social bookmark icons to your website so your visitors can use them to help you promote it. One of the sites offering free icons is http://www.social-bookmark-script.com/generator.htm. 4. Write articles related to the subject of your website and submit them to as many of the article submission websites as possible. Each article should include an author's box, like the one below, with your best keyword or phrase linked to your website. Every time a webmaster uses your article to add content to his/her site you'll get another link. And, as the links add up, your search engine rankings will rise. By the way, you can buy software or use paid services to distribute your articles...it's well worth the small investment. 5. Engage in an ongoing, aggressive link building campaign. Submit your sites to at least the four or five top search engines and every relevant directory with reasonably high Google Page Rank. Then, use a tool like the one on http://www.webuildpages.com/cool-seo-tool/ to see which sites link to your competitors, and ask them to link to you. Or, you can hire an agency (including the one who offers the free tool listed above) to obtain links for you. The five activities above, in my considered opinion, represent the best ways to promote your site. There are other ways as well...you might want to try them too. But, if you engage in the activities suggested here, you'll stand a great chance of achieving significant search engine ranking gains...the kind of gains that can ensure the success of your site.
