When the child is born, the parents are happy - or to tell the truth, even more than happy. However, the child also brings a lot of additional worries for parents. Raising a child is a lot of fun, that's true, but it also brings a lot of responsibility, often more than the parents got used to handle. At that time stress is born - and it can last for years or even our entire life unless we decide to do something about it. There are a few effective ways of keeping your temper down and you should do your best to learn them as soon as possible. First, in case of coming trouble take a few deep breaths and close your eyes for a second. It will cause your muscles to relax and stress level will temporarily decrease. Then, remember that you can always walk away for a minute when the stress becomes unbearable. It is not running away - it is just taking a short break before getting back to your duties. Then, never let yourself ignore the problems you have. It is better to meet them head on and find a solution even if this may result in conflict. When you speak your mind, you risk a short quarrel, that's true. If you decide to ignore the problem and the situation happens again, you will feel your blood pressure rising and your contacts with your children will cool down to the level when you can't really discuss with them anything. Create a set of clear rules the children have to follow. Make sure they know about it and they know WHY they should follow them. Then do your best to make sure that the rules are neither broken nor bent. If you suspect that's something wrong, investigate and act accordingly. Never let the situation get out of control - use whatever means necessary to keep everything in order. There'll soon be times when children will be able to do everything they want - once they're adults. Even the least important sources of stress can change your situation from happiness to horror and ruin your health in a matter of a few years. Here's how to avoid it: make sure that the situation in your family remains under control, your children know about the rules and the reasons for following them, you never get angry in front of children and you discuss problems with them rather than solve them singlehandedly.
