The Internet is said to be a pool of information wherein you can find information on any topic. It is the best place to gain knowledge and information along with being in constant touch with your dear ones. Despite many advantages and benefits, Internet is still considered to be the unsafe zone for the kids as they may fall prey to the criminals in the world of immense pain and treachery. A phenomenal number of children each year fall victim to internet predators. Many are just involved with these individuals over the internet and never actually meet the predator. Friends, family members, or even law enforcement puts a stop to the relationship before it gets out of hand. Unfortunately, many more children are not so lucky and meet these individuals face to face. Often, these individuals abduct, rape, torture, or even kill these poor children. By sensing this danger many Internet companies like America Online, Yahoo and Netscape have started offering a feature of parental vigilance. This restricts the kid's access to the Internet and parents get the chance to monitor them. Simply stated, if you don't allow your kids to watch obscene shows on television, they shoul not be allowed to access or open any unsuitable site. It is advisable to inform your kid about the Internet safety techniques and make them feel free to discuss with the people who are trustworthy. But make sure to monitor them during that conversation for knowing the current direction. Build a comfort zone for your kids so that they feel free to come up with the questions regarding Internet and in case any individual from the Internet is trying to contact them. These days there are strict rules and guidelines to follow for accessing the Internet in schools and libraries. If they are allowed to access web by any means then a constant observation over them is must. In case there is a case of careless and negligent management then you should contact the school authorities. Another precaution that needs to be taken is at your child's friend's place. You should make your stance on internet access be known to all parties concerned. Preferably, your child and the friend should not be allowed to access the World Wide Web without adult supervision. At home, you should place the family computer in a central location where others can see the screen. It's better to put the family computer in the kitchen or family room, instead of having a separate room for it. All these are precautions to avoid the eventuality of your child being left alone while exploring the internet. This way you can be present if any problem arises. Above all, you must communicate freely with your child and talk about the dangers of the internet. Of course, there is no point in scaring the child but it's important to make him or her aware of potential problems that may arise. Also teach your child how to report such individuals who are participating in undesirable communication. Ensuring your child’s protection while on the internet will not only give you a safe piece of mind, but it will also notify your child of the proper way to explore the World Wide Web. The internet can be a fantastic place for kids of all ages as soon as you instruct your child to the right and wrong of the internet.
