The pace of modern life can be frightening, can't it? We're so used to rushing here and rushing there that we often forget about such things as natural stress and anxiety relief. Much easier to reach for a bottle of pills or medication to lower our stress levels! But since these don't deal with the root of the problem, maybe we should have a serious look at our response. After all, stress can make us miserable - and even kill us! So why not invest some time learning about natural stress and anxiety relief?

Should You See Your Doctor?

So many of us - especially men! - avoid seeing the doctor. Bad news is never welcome, is it? And since a doctor's advice isn't free, when you're stressed you don't want to fork out for something you already know about. So should you ever consult your doctor for stress and anxiety relief?

Let's say you've noticed a loss of appetite and you're not sleeping well. In this case you should seek medical advice. If things are worse and you feel suicidal or see no point in going on, then get down to the surgery! Even if you're not quite at that stage, but your life is being ruined by anxiety and depression, you need to put on that appointment. Listen carefully to the doctor's advice and follow any treatment, but perhaps it's time to look into some methods of natural stress and anxiety relief.

Fill Your Lungs!

Try this. The next time you are stressed, take a note of how you breathe. (If you're too stressed to notice, arrange for someone to observe you.) Panting, hyperventilating and generally breathing faster than normal are common symptoms, but they create a vicious cycle. The supply of oxygen to the lungs and the brain is cut. This causes distress, so it increases the anxiety.

When this brings on feelings of panic, try to relax and regain control. Rhythmic, deep breathing is an excellent form of natural stress and anxiety relief. Your heart beat will go back to normal and your blood pressure will stabilize. This will make you feel better right away. And this improvement will enable you to manage the crisis.

Although controlled breathing is a highly effective form of natural stress and anxiety relief, what can you do if you are too overcome to get under way? Many people have found this helpful: carry a small bottle of essential oils with you; put it to your nose and smell the fragrance. There and then you'll find it easier to breathe - your natural instinct takes over.

Small bottles of essential oils are readily available in stores. Lavender, tea tree and frankincense are frequently used. Another is Bergamot, although it's not quite as popular. These oils are not manufactured, they are extracted from fruit and plants, and this organic quality makes them first-class resources for natural stress and anxiety relief. Many people say that just having that small bottle to hand gives them more confidence!
