SCALED 1:96 MODEL OF NOAHS ARK:

This model is a scratch built model of Noah's Ark, built by Den Model Ships. This model of the Ark was built according to the measurements given in the Bible (6:15-16), found in the first book of Genesis. ARK VIDEO

The Ark was 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high. The scale of the Ark model is 1/96; 1/8" equals 1 foot, which makes this model 56 1/4" long, 9 3/8 " wide, and 5 5/8 " high.

There are 5 different types of woods used on the model. The dark wood on the exterior is walnut to represent the pitch (6:14) on the Ark inside and out. The deck planks are planked in Spanish Cedar, the framing is made of Pine and Basswood, and the three cradles are made out of Cherry wood.

Door Details:

The door is located on the second floor amid ship. The door opening is 1 5/8"high and 1 1/2" wide which would make the door 13'high and 12'wide. The door is hinged and can be raised by pulling a rope in the back of the Ark. The door has 2 ropes on each lower corner of the door, which lead up to the sheave hole at the top of the door opening.

Finished Gable End of Ark:

This side of the model shows the finished gable end. There is a slight camber to the vertical sides of the hull. The Ark has a V shaped bottom with a 5 degree dead-rise, and a keel that runs from on end to the other end of the Ark.

Construction Side of the Ark:

This side of the Ark shows how the Ark may have been constructed. The planks were deliberately left off the model inside and out to show the Arks construction and framework. There are 29 framed sections; each section is spaced 2" on center.

It's a triangulated structure with a longitudinal truss that runs through the center of the Ark. The truss has a massive zig zag brace that runs through the center from one end to the other end of the Ark. Each floor shows a small portion of the deck planks, ramps, and stalls, so you are able to see the 3 different deck levels.

Exposed Gable End of Ark:

This side of the model shows the exposed gable end under construction. This allows the viewer to look through the Ark, so they are able to see down the long hallways.

The Ark was three stories high. Each floor is planked to show the three different deck levels, the first floor measures 1 7/8", the second floor 1 1/2", and the third floor measures 1 1/8" to the peak. According to the scale of the model, each floor measures, 15'on the first floor, 12'on the second floor and 9'on the third floor.
