One of the most frustrating grooming tasks for both men and women is shaving. Men who shave daily may suffer from uneasiness and scars. Same is the case with woman. They may not shave as often as men but cover a greater surface area. However, all is not lost. There are many products and techniques available in the market to prevent shaving irritation, razor burns, bumps and ingrown hairs.

Among the products for men there are special face washes, after-shave lotions and special creams that promise to prevent any shaving irritation or problem. However, you should be careful while choosing and avoid any lotions, creams, or gels that can potentially irritate your skin.

It is better for men to consult a dermatologist before starting on a shaving product. A dermatologist will advise you best on a product that suits your skin and prevents shaving irritation. Apart from this there are many prescription products that may save you from shaving uneasiness. You can buy these products only at the prescription of your dermatologist. Your dermatologist can also help you in properly understanding your shaving problem and to use proper shaving techniques if any.

A good percentage of men try to avoid using aftershave to prevent shaving related irritation. This is because most of the aftershaves are alcohol based. This dries out the skin and ends up causing further irritation. It is better to use aftershaves that use natuarl ingredients such as aloe vera and have bare minimum alcohol content. This saves your skin from becoming dry and fragile. Now days many skin care companies have brought lotions in the market as an alternative to aftershave .

Women too are no different. They also face shaving related problems. This can vary from razor burn, painful bumps to ingrown hairs depending on the woman. All these problems can be solved by the use of proper techniques and products. A specific case is razor burn. It occurs when the skin is shaved dry without using any lubricating stuff like soap, shaving cream, or shaving gel. Proper lubrication using gels or creams can save you from razor burn as well as nicks and cuts. Few women prefer soap for lubrication. However, it ends up drying your skin and may cause more irritation.

Women must think of waxing in certain areas to prevent bumps or ingrown hairs, which are frequently around the bikini area that can be both painful and embarrassing. Waxing helps to remove the entire shaft of hair from the root and prevents tiny stubble from growing underneath the top layer of skin. However, if you prefer shaving, you must use a lotion containing a slight analgesic to prevent ingrown hairs.

Apart from waxing and shaving, laser hair removal is also an option. This is particularly useful for men and women who face shaving related irritation on a daily basis. This technique has been in use for many years and prevents hair growth by destroying the hair follicle. The disadvantage of this method however is the high cost involved and the number of visits required.

The best solution for preventing shaving irritation lies in opting for a method and then sticking to it. It is also important to keep your skin healthy and hydrated for an optimum result.
