Tasks Performed by the National Association of Attorneys General

Founded in 1907, the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) was formed to aid Attorneys Generals from all over the country to provide the best legal services possible. The organization’s main mission is to encourage interaction between individuals in the post of Attorneys General from all states and territories of this country. Additionally, the National Association of Attorneys General wishes to aid these individuals and their staff members in the performance of their duties.

NAAG's main focus is to bridge the gap between the Attorneys General's offices and other organizations including outfits of legal firms and law enforcement agencies. National Association of Attorneys General worked thoroughly so as to transcend the frontiers pertaining to a variety of cases. NAAG happens to be currently led by the Indiana Attorney General, Steve Carter. The executive committee comprises of members from all the fifty states, members from District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, US Virgin Islands, and American Samoa.

The office of Attorneys General is an elected position in 43 states, Governor appointment in five states, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands, voted into office by the Legislature in Maine, a Mayoral appointment in the District of Columbia, and appointed by the state supreme court in Tennessee.

The Attorney General gets to handle lot of matters of concern in all the jurisdictions. This also proves to be an opportunity for interaction with different people at various positions within the state or territory and even neighboring areas. In order to build up on this activity amongst the Attorneys General, the National Association of Attorneys General supports the interaction of this sort.

The National Association of Attorneys General also encourages its members to continue to pursue educational and training opportunities associated with the position. Furthermore, the NAAG provides educational and training opportunities to staff members and aides. These opportunities range from litigation skills, leadership, and management, among others.

There are times when people are not aware of the role and responsibilities of the position of Attorney General. Due to the importance that this information assumes, especially in cases where it's the people who have the right to choose their state's or commonwealth's Attorney General, it is important to brief them about the role. NAAG also briefs the person holding the position of the Attorney General himself.

The location of the main office of the National Association of Attorneys General on Capitol Hill in the District of Columbia is a prime location because of its proximity to government officials, Congress, governmental agencies, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
