Cathedral Square is one of the focal points of festival activity. It is located only a few blocks from the lake and is surrounded by a host of hip restaurants, bars and shops. Free concerts are offered in the summertime allowing people a chance to dine on the local culture at a price anyone can afford. It is host to Bastille Days which is one of the many festivals that take place during the summer in Milwaukee. In the wintertime, Cathedral Square is illuminated by thousands of lights offering people a romantic atmosphere in which to stroll down.

The Milwaukee County Zoo is home to over 3000 animals and a host of endangered species. It is a great place to take children with its famous petting zoo and educational programs. There is even a cross-country skiing trail for the adults.

The Milwaukee Art Museum is a favorite for people with even the most discerning of tastes. Situated near the lakefront, the museum offers a wonderful collection of paintings, sculptures, and photography for visitors to admire. There is a lower level cafe so you need not go anywhere to find great food at reasonable prices. The museum also allows a number of dancers and performers to display their talents on weekends and some week days.

Milwaukee may not seem like the most exciting destination for your vacation. But isn't a vacation supposed to be relaxing? Too many times we find ourselves lured in by the glitz and glamour of some of the other more popular destinations simply because they have larger advertising budgets. But when we get there, we are confronted with hassle after hassle to the point that we cannot wait to get home. Milwaukee offers a great alternative to all of the bells and whistles of the other hot vacation spots and may just be the place to go if you actually want to sit back and unwind from a hectic year at work.
